Three Ways To Get Rid Of A Car That Doesn't Work

Blog

Do you have a car that doesn't work? A car that doesn't work can be a nuisance at best and a community eyesore at worst, but it can be difficult to know what to do with it. After all, it's a few thousand pounds of metal either in your garage or yard. There are a few options for you, however, that can get your vehicle out of your life and potentially even doing some good for someone else.

1. Scrap the Car

Many junkyards will scrap cars and give you at least a few hundred dollars for the parts -- all you need to do is get it there. (There are even some services that will tow the vehicle for you, so you might want to check in advance.) Scrapping the car will let you recover some of its value and it won't be necessary for the vehicle to work at all. Scrap yards are fast and professional, though you'll probably not get a lot of money in return.

2. Donate the Car

Donating the car is almost always a better option than scraping it. When donating the car, you can take the value of the vehicle as a tax deduction -- and the value of the car is usually more than what you could actually get for it without a lot of work. Many charities take in tax deductible car donations of vehicles that don't work so they can fix them up or use them to fix up other cars. These cars are then either sold at auction for the charity or given to those who are economically disadvantaged.

3. Give Away the Car

If you just need the vehicle gone, it is possible to give it away for free through a classified listing. There are some problems with this, however: people will know your address, there will be many respondents, and some of them may be upset if the vehicle or its parts turn out to be unsafe. Giving away the car is usually the fastest and most convenient option, however, because people will take it away quite quickly.

Of course, you may want to get a mechanic to look at the car before you sell it or give it away. The vehicle will always be more valuable if it works -- and the issue could be a minor one. Still, if you just want to get rid of a car fast, one of the easiest ways is to call your local charities and ask them if they accept non-functioning cars for donation.

trade schools to build on your degree

These days, it is harder to find a job doing what you have gone to college for. I went to school for graphic design and thought that I would easily be able to find a job doing what I went to school for. Unfortunately, the field is flooded with graphic design artists, which makes it very hard to get a job. I have since completed a course at a local trade school that has opened up many doors for my career. Find out what a trade school can teach you to build on a previous degree that you have worked so hard to complete.
